Historical Marker at first modern Meijer store
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — When Meijer Thrifty Acres opened in Grand Rapids more than 50 years ago, it changed the way we go shopping. Monday, Michigan Historical Marker was dedicated at the location where the Meijer family took a big risk. Meijer Thrifty Acres opened on the corner of 28th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue SE in Grand Rapids in June 1962. It was unlike anything anyone had ever seen.
