SS Badger crossing lake for checkup in WI
LUDINGTON, Mich. (AP) — Under a sunny sky, a 62-year-old Lake Michigan ferry has departed a Michigan port for a checkup across the water in Wisconsin. The Ludington Daily News reports that the SS Badger left Ludington on Sunday for Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, where the hull will be inspected. The ship’s two propellers, each weighing about 14,000 pounds, will be removed and cleaned. The Badger makes approximately 450 crossings a year across Lake Michigan, between Ludington and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. It can hold 600 passengers and 180 automobiles and other...
