Michigan House OKs bill to tax, regulate medical marijuana
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan would tax medical marijuana and regulate the drug in a tiered system similar to alcohol and gambling under bills approved by the state House. The chamber voted 95-11 for legislation Wednesday to let licensed “provisioning centers” sell marijuana to patients or caregivers. The businesses would pay a 3 percent tax on their gross retail income, in addition to Michigan’s 6 percent sales tax. Another bill would amend the 2008 voter-approved medical marijuana law to authorize non-smokable forms such as oils, food and pills. Advocates...
