Family: Deputy ‘is going to protect us from above’
GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Family is remembering an Ottawa County sheriff’s deputy who died on Thanksgiving Day after a battle with cancer. Matt Chatfield, 39, leaves behind a wife and three children. He was given a hero’s homecoming Thursday morning, spending the last minutes of this life at his home in Georgetown Township. His brother says Matt was the ultimate good cop, on and off the job. He was constantly helping others, which is most likely the reason so many tried to help him when he got sick....
