Description:
Radioland offers a unique take on classic popular music with an emphasis on acoustic based music by artists such as John Denver, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Croce along with groups like America, Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, that have been staples on American airwaves since the 60’s.
The trio combines the talents of guitarists/vocalists Randy Hill and Steve Berkemeier with drummer and percussionist Kent Bowen. Each member brings a wealth of musical experience from varied backgrounds. Hill and Berkemeier have each released CDs of their own music as well as covers by other artists. While Berkemeier has been a popular solo performer at festivals and venues in Southern Michigan and Ohio, Hill’s music has been well received in the Western Michigan area earning him a "2001 WYCE Jammy Award for best folk rock album" nomination in Grand Rapids for his "Reflections" CD. Bowen brings extensive experience of keeping the beat for a variety of bands from jazz to rock.
Berkemeier and Hill share lead and harmony vocals switching between acoustic, electric and bass guitars while Bowen’s drumming adds the horsepower that raises the energy level above their individual solo efforts.
Berkemeier and Bowen have both been disc jockeys at radio stations playing classic hits of the 60’s and 70’s (One reason for the band’s name). Together with Hill, they have drawn on their experience to put together a crowd pleasing selection of familiar favorites not offered by most other classic rock and country bands.
