Description: nigerian puppy scam : I got a call from a friend last night telling me to check out ads for English bulldogs in the classified sections. He said it was all over the web that some ads for English bulldog puppies are actually another ingenious Nigerian scam, this time preying on pet lovers. I did some checking and sure enough, lots of people have reported being taken by the ads, which offer the puppies for free but ask for help with the cost of shipping them to the U.S. I found this story from the Savannah Morning News, which I thought I should share. Do people really fall for these scams? Apparently, enough do to make it worthwhile. Anyway here’s the Savannah story.
Beware a Nigerian-based Internet scam that targets lovers of English bulldogs. Mindy Gorman knew something was amiss when the woman responding to her inquiry about an English bulldog puppy said she wanted the dog to go to a "good Christian home." The fact that the dog was living in Nigeria raised Gorman’s eyebrows, too. But the final red flag came when Gorman offered to pay to have the puppy shipped home, but insisted on using Pay Pal, a secure Internet payment method. No deal, said the dog’s owner in Nigeria, who identified himself as "Pastor Harry." He wanted the $500 sent to Lagos via Western Union. So goes a new scam, one that preys on pet lovers, especially those with Christian sympathies and a penchant for stranded puppies.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference BEWARE: Nigerian bulldog puppy scam: Comments I work for a Western Union agent. Two days ago a young lady came to send £150 via WU to Nigeria to buy a dog. She was adamant that her friend had also bought a dog this way and that the dog had arrived. I was extremely dubious but she was so insistent that she knew the vendor and that her friend has successfully traded, that I eventually relented and processed the tx.
I impressed on her that, once I’d hit the "submit" button, if anything went wrong, she would not see the money again. She said this was quite alright.
It was only after the MTCN had been generated that she said she’d been in the day before to see my colleague to transfer the same amount to the same "person". She said the recipient had contacted her to say the money had been collected by someone else and they were launching a police investigation in Nigeria. Had I known this before, I would not have processed the tx. This girl has now lost £300.

I just had the same thing happen to me. I was on livedeals.com and came acroos this cute englishbulldog named "hero". The person named joyce crene claimed to be a christian missionary who had to get ri of it. So she only wanted 300.00 for the shipping fee. Then I got a phone call from this man named charles edeh who claimed to be the shipper. I got an e-mail on exactly what they needed for me to wire the money western union. So being naive i went ahead and did it. The next thing I know I’m at the airport and they never sent the puppy. So I called the guy back and then he wanted me to send another 150.00 for customs and the crate. I started questioning him. I almost did it, but then at the last minute he said he meant 300.00. So i started investigating and here I am writing this So please beware.

The same thing happened here. They said they would ship the dog for $300 and when they got the money they needed $200 more for crated rental, fines and forienger fees. I have reported it to the police and local news and newspapers. what can you do. people take advantage of trust when it comes to Gods name. He claimed to be Reverend Daniel Pepple

they are working us. we saw the free puppys and responded to the add. the breader now tells us:
Hello,
I just sold out the puppies in question to a lovely and caring parent few days ago and the pups are doing quite well with their new parent. I have alot of great parents that had adopted pups from me and I have never regretted adopting my pups out to my chosen parent. Among the parent is the one that I would refer you to now. He was a missionary here in the USA before he got transfered to west africa on a missionary work. He bought 2 pups from me and the pups were happy with him. Some days ago, he contacted me to find a caring parent for his pups because west africa is not the best place for this kind of dogs.
However, he had little or no time for the pups because of his commitment to his chosen assignment in west africa so,you will have to contact him as soon as you can for the adoption of the babies from him.His name is Rev.Fitz Patrick and his email address is written below. Tell him you are from me and also let me know when you adopt the pups so as to send a starter-kit to you on how to care for the pups when they arrive your home.
Best Regards Carl
we gave him our cell numbers, he called us, but could not understand him talking. he said enternet so we did. (thinking it was our lucky day, and why would a REV. lie to us) yea!
the scamer sent us a email saying:
Hello,
Thanks for your interest in my babies and am happy speaking with you over the phone. First of all, I must thank my living Lord that I found an intending parent for my babies, I also give thanks to Carl Kimberly that directed you to me. I`m giving them out for adoption. They are 8 weeks currently and akc registered, all their shots are up to date. They are $350 each shipping included and the two are $650 shipping included.I got relocated to west africa recently and could not take care of the babies anymore. I want a great home for them because they are my real babies.
The weather here is not conducive for them that is why I want to get them out as soon as possible and i will be very happy if you will be the one to take them as your babies.I have a male and his name is MOFFY while the female name is MANNIE.They are both very good with kids and love to play alot this is one of their many character, I never wanted to sell them but the weather here in West Africa is not helping matters at all. If you are interested kindly get back to me with your full shipping address asap so that the babies can be on their way to their new home as soon as their shipping arrangement is concluded. They are well socialised, potty trained, shots up to date, dewormed, vet checked with health certificate, crate trained and they are in a flawless and perfect health condition.Find the attachment for their pictures.
I will be making use of the agent that shipped them into west africa for me for there immediate shippment back to the USA when all terms are settled regarding their adoption.I will always remember you in my daily prayers as you promise to take good care of my babies. Thanks and God bless you
Rev.Fitz Patrick
well..... come to find out. the breader and the rev. is the same person.

Same thing happened to me. I found an add on http://classifieds.yahoo.com/detail.html?cc=pets&fullnodeid=750049676&cid=pets-1164120904-344404 and contacted Carl Kimberley by email who then said that he sold out of all his puppies but someone he sold two of the puppies to wasn’t able keep them because he was a missionary being sent to West Africa and then puppies wouldn’t do well in that climate. His name is Rev.Fitz Patrick rev.fitzpatrick_psalm@yahoo.com
At this point I was feeling a little suspicious about the whole thing, Rev.Fitz Patrick stated that he would sale both of the puppies for 500.00 and that was shipping included. He kept making statements like I thank the lord that we found a wonderful home for my babies, and Thank you very much and God Bless you. Then he asked for my shipping address, I told him that I don’t give out my personal information over email. He asked me to send him money by Western Union at this point he was calling me on the phone speaking to me about it.. I could hear in the back ground that is sounded like a call center.... ( sounds like alot of people are being had, for being pet lovers)
I told Rev.Fitz Patrick that I wouldn’t send money Western Union, if he had pay pal or a secure internet means for me to pay otherwise no deal... He kept talking trying to pull me into his scam, by now I had already searched the internet for other related cases and realized that I was in a full fledged scam... At this point I felt so taken that I just told him I would rather not do business with you and I hung up.
Is there a way to stop these scam artist?

Hello all This is in response to all of you out there who were either ripped off or nearly ripped off by a Nigerian scam artist. This is a must read post.
WOW am I GLAD that God took me to this site before I was scammed by the notorious ’Helen Rowe’. I got the same exact email that an earlier poster (Heather) received!! ((You would think that they would have used their spell check feature. I don’t think these scammers are as intelligent as we think they are since they cannot even spell!))
I had a bad feeling from the get go when my husband and I saw the ad in our local newspaper, but we have been wanting a bulldog puppy so badly that I guess we tried to give this person the benefit of the doubt. The ad stated that they needed someone for an immediate adoption of their sweet baby bulldog. They went on to say how they wanted a loving, caring person, how they don’t want to part with it, etc. They said the total cost would be $500 only to cover the cost of shipping. It truly seemed genuine. The email address was missesrowe@yahoo.com
It took over a month for a response, but after a string of emails, phone conversations, and many, many red flags, we came across this site. We have come to the conclusion that there probably really is no Helen Rowe (only a fictitious entity), but a male Nigerian scam artist. We found it odd that we never had any conversations with Helen over the phone. The man (who coined himself ’Toby’) spoke in extreme broken English and could barely be understood, thus my husband was the one who did the talking with ’Toby’ over the phone.
We came very close to being ripped off by this man. We nearly agreed to picking him up at our local airport in two weeks, but the last call was very shady in that he insisted that we include an ADDITIONAL $200-$300 to cover the costs of new customs that were recently added the the Nigerian airports. Toby gave him a sob story of how he and his ’wife’ (they don’t have the same last name) are broke and cannot afford to cover the additional costs. That’s when we refused to make the transaction. Toby immediately changed his tune and said that he would find a way to pay for the extras so as long as we send the $500 immediately the next day via Western Union. He insisted that it was imperative that we send the money right away. Mind you, in a prior email, they insisted that they didn’t need the entire $500 upfront, but only half as a deposit because there was ’really no way to prove that we would want the puppy’ in two weeks.
"Hi there.
We Appreciate that you understand all that i explained...thanks alot.
We would love it if you can have the money done tomorrow. That way we would know that they dog has been adopted by you and we will email the news-papers to remove it from the ad.
After that you have the money done....i also want you to think and be specific where and when you want us to ship the dog. No matter the time difference, once i get your email that you want the dog shipped, it is going to be delivered to you by the next day in the evening ok.
